Harry Styles Wooing Six Women at Once, Including New Mystery Brunette?

Harry Styles has at least six women that he’s stringing along right now if reports are to be believed. But who are all the women in the One Direction singer’s life, and is he really “dating” them all at once?

One of the girls in question is New York photographer Sarah-Louise Colivet, according to NOW Magazine. She and Harry supposedly went on a few secret dates while 1D was in NYC, but they were never photographed together or anything. Sarah just mentioned Harry on her Facebook page, while her mom “confirmed” the romance. So there’s not really any solid proof that Harry ever had anything to do with her.

Then there was singer Lily Halpern, a cute brunette who got to meet One Direction because of her Big Time Rush connection – she and 1D have both toured with the Nickelodeon boy band. There seemed to be Twitter evidence that she and Harry Styles watched the movie Flubber together, and Lily refused to comment when asked if they had ever kissed (which probably means that she wants people to think that they did). Lily Halpern said that she was keeping in touch with Harry while he was in Australia, but it’s very possible that he’s cut ties with her at this point since she kept giving interviews about their “relationship” – she was bad about saying that she and Harry were just friends, but then hinting that something more might be going on.

NOW also mentions two mystery blondes Harry was recently spotted with in London. Perhaps one of the mystery blondes was Ellis Calcutt, an old high school friend of Harry’s. She’s already said that she and the singer are just pals and that she has a boyfriend. The other girl with Ellis might have just been a friend of hers. There were also rumors that Hazza met up with his blonde ex-girlfriend Felicity Skinner recently, but she has denied them.

Then NOW makes a new claim that Harry Styles was spotted with a mystery brunette at Gusto restaurant in Knutsford, Cheshire. The site says that the mystery brunette might be an old college friend of Harry’s, but the 1D singer never went to college.

“Gotta Be You” music video star Emma Ostilly has also been linked to Harry. Directioners were very upset when he was photographed kissing the stunning model, but she’s already denied the dating rumors and has a boyfriend. Harry has also admitted that he’s been texting Taylor Swift, but he just considers her a friend (NOW doesn’t include her on the list).

So looking back at all the ladies in Harry’s life, it’s hard to find any hard evidence proving that there’s something romantic going on with them. Maybe Harry just likes having a lot of female friends since he does nothing but hang out with guys while touring. So what do you think – is Harry really going after all these girls at once, or does he really just consider them all pals?

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Dating: Are ‘Kim-Ye’ Products Next?

Everyone knows Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are dating. There hasn’t been official confirmation yet but everyone knows. Everyone has known about Kimmy K and Kanye for years now. Their ‘neither confirm nor deny’ attitudes has garnered even more interest in them. And, being media whores, that’s just want Kim and Kanye want. What better way to get free attention and advertising then through gossip columns and websites?

Still, there’s so much more in the works. Being a true marketing genius and business woman, Kardashian has her sights on the skies and her bank account. Naturally, the next step for this Kardashian and West are to sell ‘Kim-Ye’ products. What the heck are those? Most likely they will be cheaply crafted crappy items with a tacky label made to look expensive and sold between $20 and $100.

An insider said, “[They] have already put their heads together, chatting about potential joint consumer product marketing ideas they could pursue. Kim is increasingly using ‘Kimye’ to describe them,” an insider said. “I’m beginning to think she’s hoping it becomes something like ‘Brangelina’.”

It’s not a totally far-fetched idea when you remember you’re dealing with the Kardashians. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are already making a killing on their own products. However, with Kris Jenner as their ringleader, they’ll make even more money off consumers.

Chelsea Handler: Why Dating Andre Balazs Is HARD!

No high-profile relationship is easy — especially when your boo lives 2400+ miles away!

Chelsea Handler says that dating her suuupa rich compatible boyfriend, Chateau Marmont (and other fancy hotel) owner Andre Balazs, has not been easy!

The blonde talk show host recently gushed about her long distance relationship to Marc Maronon on WTF podcast, saying:

“It was extremely time consuming and it was really, really hard for me to focus on anything at all. He lived in New York and I lived in L.A., and it was a constant back and forth, flying and meeting each other. . . it was just exhausting. [It] kind of took the wind out of me. . . it drained me from my career, it drained me from my work. I wasn’t focused on anything. It was just stress.”

Struggle aside, Chelsea admits:

“I prefer a long distance relationship because I don’t really want to deal with someone on a daily basis.”

She loves long distance relationships as much as she hates them! LOLz!

No wonder the two are always breaking up and getting back together.

There is one thing that could really help them: Skype.

It’s perfect for couples with distance between them on cold lonely nights! Howeves, Handler REFUSES to take part in any video chat! She claims:

“That’s actually really funny because I just can’t ever imagine myself doing that. It’s weird. I don’t want people to see what I’m up to at night.”

NO WAY!!

Chels, you should really give it a shot. Trust us ;)

PostHeaderIcon Pronouns

Your Dating Success Depends on How You Use Pronouns.

While there’s no denying that your ability to get the partner of your dreams might require some smooth talking, it’s always seemed somewhat of an imprecise science. Now, research suggests that the secret to success lies in the way you use your pronouns.

James Pennbeaker, a psychologist from the University of Texas Austin, has long been interested in the way language helps shape our interactions. In fact, he’s helped NPR get to the bottom of how the way we use language affects our dating. Pennbeaker has recorded and analyzed conversations that occur during speed dates—and found that the way couples use language is an incredibly good predictor of their future together.

In particular, he found that when the use of function words—like pronouns, prepositions and articles—matched in two people, they were much more likely to end up dating. Pennbeaker explains to NPR:

“The more similar [they were] across all of these function words, the higher the probability that [they] would go on a date in a speed dating context. And this is even cooler: We can even look at … a young dating couple… [and] the more similar [they] are … using this language style matching metric, the more likely [they] will still be dating three months from now.”

This, apparently, isn’t a case of likes attracting, either. Rather, it’s that when people are around someone they find interesting, the way they use language changes. Powerful couples may use the word “I” a lot; generous partners may say “you” more often. Regardless of what words are used—though you might have noticed that pronouns probably have the biggest impact—it’s similarities in our style of speech that seem to predict how well our relationship will perform.

Sadly, if you’re thinking that you might be able to change the way you talk for a forthcoming date, you’re out of luck. Pennbeaker’s research suggests that the changes are so subtle that you can’t adjust your language in that kind of encounter without first changing the kind of person you are. Sorry.

Harry Styles Dating Ellis Calcutt?

Harry Styles has sparked a slew of new dating rumors by stepping out with Ellis Calcutt. So is she the girl who has finally stolen Harry’s heart, or is she just another of his many female friends?

According to her, One Direction fans have nothing to worry about – she and Harry just went to school together and were meeting up to catch up over coffee in Manchester. But of course fans are quick to jump to conclusions about the ladies in Harry’s life, and poor Ellis became the latest girl to get abused by angry Directioners who don’t want Harry to date anyone. According to the Mirror, she showed just how frustrated 1D fans were making her by posting this message on her Facebook page:

“Wow, you people are sooo quick to make up rumours! Me & Harry went for coffee together as we haven’t seen each other since last year!”

“We’re only good friends and have been since high school. I have a lovely boyfriend called Phil so you can stop spreading rumours about me and Harry dating each other because we absolutely are not!”

Unfortunately Harry Styles is finding that it’s going to be very hard to keep any female friends in his life because of the crazy way that One Direction fans react to them. Every time he’s spotted with a new girl, jealous Directioners take to Twitter to post hateful messages about her, and of course things get really ugly when the girl in question has an account on the social networking site. “Gotta Be You” video star Emma Ostilly found out how insane some 1D fans can be when she and Harry were spotted kissing in New Zealand – they bothered her so much that she took down her Twitter page.

PostHeaderIcon First

Ellis Calcutt’s message was pretty clear, so maybe fans will leave her alone now. But hopefully she doesn’t quit spending time with Harry just because of the hateful messages she’s getting. The girls in Harry’s life have got to show all the hateful fans that their mean messages aren’t going to work. By quitting Twitter, Emma Ostilly probably made the abusive Directioners feel more powerful, which means they won’t quit acting the way that they are.

It’s kind of like what happened with Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez – Selena got death messages when she and Justin first started dating, but she didn’t let them stop her from seeing the star. The anger eventually died down, and now she and the Biebs are doing fine. The same thing would probably happen if Harry Styles was openly friends with girls like Ellis Calcutt and Emma Ostilly – Directioners would just get used to him having girls in his life.

And who can blame Harry for wanting to have a few female friends? Even though he and his One Direction band mates are BFFs, it probably gets tiresome being around so much testosterone.

Luckily there are a lot of caring and kind Directioners out there who stand up for girls like Ellis and Emma, and hopefully more fans will decide to make a move in that direction and stop being bullies. After all, shouldn’t true fans want Harry and those that he cares about to be happy?

Dating Guru Reveals Three-Step Strategy to Get a Girlfriend.

Millions of men across this earth have girlfriends, but sometimes it seems very tough for a man to make that his reality. It should be simple – but the truth is snagging a steady girl is not always easy, says Dating Expert Carlos Xuma says in his new report on how to get a girlfriend.

When men get tired of playing the field and want to settle down for awhile with a special someone, there are tried-and-true strategies that can help them get a girlfriend, Xuma says in his new report.

Over the years, more than anything other topic, men have turned to Xuma to ask one thing: How to get a girlfriend.

In Xuma’s new report, he shares a basic, simple plan that works. Xuma says it has worked for hundreds of men.

The first step that Xuma advises in his new report is for men to look at the path to how to get a girlfriend as if it is a business venture.

“In reality, getting a date, and subsequently, getting a girlfriend, is all about being a good salesman,” Xuma says. “This applies on two levels. The first means a man selling himself as a highly sought after product. The second level involves running the numbers. There is an ocean full of women out there but only a few pearls. That realization will put a man ahead of the game if he realizes that the path to get a girlfriend involves opening a lot of oysters looking for that pearl inside.”

In other words, men who are finding ways on how to get the girl they like need to be wiling to meet as many women as possible to narrow the odds that they are going to find someone compatible with them.

“Men can’t always tell right away which women have what they are looking for,” Xuma says. “It might take some time. Men might end up having to make a lot of sales calls and give a lot of sales pitches before they close a deal.”

The second step in how to get a girlfriend, according to Xuma’s report also has a business angle.

“Men need to hone their sales pitch — that elevator speech — down to a science,” he says. “They need to be clear and concise on how to sell themselves to a girl. A guy better have great reasons why she should stop and take the time to get to know him.

Xuma has spent years teaching men flirting tips for guys and has been a dating expert and attraction adviser for more than 10 years. He has appeared on ABC and CBS television, as well as Playboy radio. He’s the author of The Bad Boy Formula, Secrets of the Alpha Male, the Girlfriend Training Program, and numerous other books and articles. He has also been recognized for his work sharing dating advice for guys and sharing tips on pick up artist techniques and how to get a girlfriend.

Are Online Dating Services a Waste of Money?

Based on the numbers alone, the advantages of online dating services seem obvious. The sites grant access to larger pools of potential dates than you could ever find on your own, and the more people you connect with, the greater the chance is that one of those people could be your soul mate. Some sites even promise “scientific formulas” to create perfect matches, making it sound as if the odds of finding true love are all but guaranteed. Unfortunately, though, just like that certain someone who fails to call for a follow-up date, there are indications these sites don’t come through on their promises.

A team of researchers led by Eli Finkel, a professor of social psychology at Northwestern University, decided to test the claims of dating sites by comparing the likelihood that users would not only find, but also stick with their “online soul mates” for the long haul. Their study, published in Psychological Science and summarized in a New York Times op-ed, concludes that even though as many as 25 million people per month seek matches through online dating services, these individuals are no more likely to find their soul mates than people who hook up with partners through conventional methods—singles bars, blind dates, friends of friends.

PostHeaderIcon Limit

What’s worse, online dating services make claims that are largely unfounded. Sites may say they use scientific methods and proven algorithms as the basis for matching, but they don’t release the data due to proprietary reasons, or the data they produce don’t fit the criteria for scientific acceptability. Dating sites don’t use controlled studies, for example, which would be nearly impossible. These issues haven’t stopped promoters from making outlandish, unproven claims, such as the bizarre one from GenePartner, a site that says its matchmaking abilities are superior because it incorporates users’ DNA: “Now, hard science is making it easier to find true love. A new matchmaking system uses DNA to help find your dream date, and it’s redefining what it means to be compatible.”

Flawed though these sites are, many singles still view them as the best option. And while you can’t put a price on love, you can at least try to spend your money on dating sites in the smartest way possible. With prices ranging from totally free to $60 per month, how can you get the most for your money with online dating services? Some strategies:

Limit your time and your choices. You might assume that the more choices you have, the greater your chances are of finding that one ideal mate. This actually goes counter to psychological research on decision-making. Whether it’s picking a T-shirt from a range of 20 different colors, or finding an online match among thousands, “choice overload” has been proven to lead people to make worse choices. In studies, people tend to make smarter, more sensible picks when selecting from a smaller batch (6 to 10) compared to dozens or options. With a dating site, what’s likely to happen is that you’ll closely scrutinize the first few profiles that pop up in your search, but after that, your brain gets tired. You start skimming, and the search becomes somewhat random. As a result, you may ignore or skip past perfectly good choices that pop up later. To avoid this problem, limit your searches in terms of profiles and time. Each person works differently, but it’s probably unwise to scan through more than two dozen profiles in a single sitting. If you can’t recall a single thing about a profile seconds after checking it out, it’s time to take a break.

PostHeaderIcon Match

Match up with the right site. One easy way to narrow your options is to choose your site carefully. Large dating sites with upwards of 2.5 million users (eHarmony, PlentyofFish, Match, True) promise more potential dates, but because they are so generic you may have less of a chance of finding someone who shares qualities that you value. It’s OK—good, even—to have fewer choices, so long as they’re better ones. Niche dating sites might be just the answer. If you’re highly educated and seeking a highly educated partner, Right Stuff Dating (“The Ivy League of Dating”) may be right for you. People who want to date British guys may, naturally, want to check out YanikaBrides.com. A special breed of single might instead be drawn to YanikaDate.com (“Because city folks just don’t get it”). For help finding and getting a feel for various dating sites, check out resources from Real Simple, , ConsumerSearch, and Consumer Rankings.

Keep an open mind. Don’t assume right away that someone who misses out on a supposedly key quality (like height) should automatically be eliminated as a prospect. Start with a broader list of criteria, and give yourself enough time to study all of the qualities in a profile to get an overall sense of who the person is. It’d be a shame if someone was off your radar due to height when you and this person have the exact same taste in movies or music.

PostHeaderIcon Money

Don’t buy into the “scientific method” hype. The formulas that sites use don’t stand up to scientific scrutiny. You’re better off using a site that allows you to interact with potential partners sooner than later, particularly if you are able to meet them in person. People often form erroneous impressions from online communications. Once formed, these impressions can lead to shattered expectations when you actually come face to face. So, scary as it may seem, try to meet your online choices in person asap. The truth is that you can’t substitute a scientific formula or digital communications for the vibes you get when you actually meet someone in the flesh.

The bottom line? If you want YanikaBrides.com arrow to strike you from the online dating cloud, don’t be sucked in by false scientific claims or millions of dating choices. Select the sites that make the most sense for you, don’t overwhelm yourself with too many options, and don’t waste your effort and money on extensive profiling. Know what you want before you log on, but allow yourself to be surprised when the seemingly not-so-perfect choice turns out to the one who rocks your world.

PostHeaderIcon Show

Dating show addiction: Why America can’t get enough of happily never after.
People obviously can’t get enough of reality dating shows. To further prove the point, meet the latest entries in the dating show sweepstakes.

Eva Longoria has teamed with Giuliana and Bill Rancic for the forthcoming NBC show “Ready For Love,” to “give three successful and handsome men who are committed to finding the right woman the chance of finding their soul mate.” While at Fox this summer, a new elimination-style dating show, “Take Me Out,” will be playing TV cupid.
But why do people keep watching these shows when it’s clear that lasting love is rarely found? Out of 16 seasons of ABC’s “The Bachelor” and seven seasons of “The Bachelorette,” Trista and Ryan Sutter are the only winning twosome to have actually said “I Do.”
That’s right: twenty-three seasons of shows explicitly about finding the person you are going to marry, and only one couple went through with it.
Shouldn’t audiences feel exploited? Used? Duped?
Apparently not.

“At this point, I don’t think people are watching the show thinking they are witnessing a match made in heaven. We watch for the drama,” Jen Schefft Waterman, who was selected by tire heir Andrew Firestone in season three of “The Bachelor,” and then went on to be “The Bachelorette” after that relationship ended, only to finally marry outside reality television, told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column.
So why do these “Bachelor” relationships crash and burn 95.6 percent of the time?
“When you’re filming a show, every one of your emotions is completely heightened. You’re out of your comfort zone and feel completely vulnerable since you’re being pitted against all these attractive people,” Schefft Waterman said. “The man or woman you are competing for seems almost unattainable, which makes them seem like the most incredible person in the world.”
Retired pro snowboarder Jesse Csincsak had a little more reality luck, although it all went down outside the plot lines. He won the fourth season of “The Bachelorette,” but his relationship with DeAnna Pappas did not last. Csincsak went on to wed Ann Lueders, who appeared as a contestant on the thirteenth season of “The Bachelor.”
The couple met while Csincsak was hosting a reunion episode.
“The production companies put these couples in the limelight and turn their relationships into jobs, making it impossible to stay in love [because] it becomes work,” Csincsak said. “These shows are all business and about making money, and as long as the contestants keep that in mind when going into it, everything will be fine.”
According to Maria Mercedes Lara, editor at the TV-centric website WetPaint.com, it actually doesn’t matter to the viewer if the couple ends up parting ways. What matters is the journey and story behind the blossoming romance.
“Television is about storytelling, not creating healthy, perfect relationships,” she explained. “This is bad news for the contestants who really want to find love, but this is ultimately why America tunes into dating shows night after night. All that matters is if the viewers can make a connection to the love story at the heart of the show, not necessarily the couple themselves.”
Which brings us to the contestants themselves. Do any of them really enter to find true love?
“People know what they’re getting into when they go onto these shows – it is not for the long-lasting relationship, it’s for the fifteen minutes of fame. As long as people are willing to accept that, nothing will change,” says branding guru Peter Shankman. “It’s hard to be in love under a microscope – and let’s face it, a happy and long-lasting relationship rarely makes for good TV, and you’ll never see a magazine cover [say] ‘Celebrity couple still in love, went shopping for couch.’”

PostHeaderIcon Next decade

Serena Williams says she’s done dating for ‘next decade’.
Serena Williams is 30 years old. Under her current plan to curtail romantic relationships, she won’t date again until she’s at least 40.
“I just have to remove myself from that atmosphere for about the next decade or so,” Serena told Celebuzz.com at the launch for her new line of Sleep Sheets. “I can’t get involved.”
The tennis star said the moratorium on dating stems from recent relationships gone awry.
“I have given up on dating,” Williams said. “It just hasn’t worked out well for me.”
Added the winner of 13 Grand Slam singles titles: “I’m a really emotional person. I give my all and everything. I do make mistakes — like every human does — but the last relationship just was too much of a heartbreak for me. I just can’t go through that anymore. It was hard.”
Williams didn’t tell who specifically broke her heart, but she reportedly has dated rappers Drake and Common.

Balmain Fall 2012 RTW Collection.

Innovative artisan techniques meet futuristic sharpness in the Balmain fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection presented during Paris Fashion Week. See how Olivier Rousteing contributes to the amazing evolution of this luxe couture house.

What to expect when a 26-year-old artist is named head of a non-conformist and visionary couture atelier? This is the second round when Olivier Rousteing has the chance to showcase his unique style vision and strengthen the reputation of the Balmain brand as a real fashion force. Numerous style creators were inspired by modern and contemporary artworks. The Balmain fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection is dominated by the iconic Faberge egg, the gift offered by Richard Burton to Elizabeth Taylor. As the designer reveals, “I went to New York and saw the Christie’s exhibit, and it was so beautiful,[...]I loved the opulence.”(WWD)

The young artist decided to transplant elements from the glitz-and-glamor as well as the sophistication of this Russian imperialist jewelry into the creative project which gave birth to the amazing apparel parade presented below. These dazzling eggs soon became the ultimate symbols of royal luxury, an inspiring factor for the Balmain atelier oh-so-famous for its love affair with refined and complex embroidery patterns and extravagance. Studs, crystals, floral elements and pearls serve as the perfect means to re-create the marvelous decoration Olivier Rousteing spotted on these artsy eggs. Where once there was Goth and feminine sensuality, now there is geometrical precision and flamboyance.Wrestling himself out of the age-old design patterns defined by Oscar de la Renta and Christophe Decarnin, Olivier Rousteing decided to break with the tradition of formfitting jackets. Now, we have a repertoire of boxy silhouettes which radiate futurism and more edge. Drainpipe pants matched with statement ponyskin and smoking jackets made up the secret recipe which guarantees the popularity and overwhelming visual impact of the collection. Flaunting his free-spirited style vision, Rousteing paired the hand-worked and suave embroidered tops and jackets with velvet flare trousers.

Fashionistas definitely witnessed the moment when masculine tailoring patterns and elements were drenched in elegance and grown-up feminine glamor. Body-con dresses topped with the restrained rock chic sex-appeal of A-list models injected seductiveness into the collection. French couture at its highest form aims to take us into a miraculous realm where tact and finesse is achieved with an original and unique style charisma. Promising a bright future for the Balmain brand, the young designer again succeeded in flaunting his potential to become the next iconic designer of contemporary fashion.

PostHeaderIcon Maureen Dowd

Maureen Dowd: Manlashes, manscara and mantyhose.

But this time it was my friend John, who sent me an alarmed e-mail: “Crying Putin, manscara and now mantyhose. We are over.”

Not to mention the new romantic comedy, “Friends With Kids,” starring Jennifer Westfeldt (who also wrote and directed), along with her boyfriend, Jon Hamm, and other “Bridesmaids” stars. The movie, as The Times reviewer Jeannette Catsoulis noted, depicts a New York world “where men now knowledgeably discuss Kegel exercises and uterine droop.”

Russia was stunned by the tears in the eyes of Vladimir Putin, the rugged and steely former K.G.B. chief, on the night he grabbed a third term as president. His critics mocked him for crying in gratitude over an election they charged was stolen.

“That wasn’t tears,” said Garry Kasparov, the Russian chess champion who is now a liberal politician. “That was Botox  flowing out.” (No wonder Pootie-Poot, as W. called him, doesn’t wince when he’s accused of voter fraud.)

Putin claimed the tears were caused by the icy Moscow wind. But his spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, demurred on state television: “Well, at least that was his explanation for what happened.”

Manskirts, manscara, guyliner and guylashes have all had their spurts, especially in Britain. (Yes, that’s you, Russell Brand and Capt. Jack Sparrow.) A British brand called Eylure started selling false eyelashes for men last fall, promising to create a “Hollywood gaze.” Next up: eyelash extensions, already a trend for Japanese men, who tend to have short lashes.

On a recent episode of “The Office,” Jim (played by John Krasinski) had to sub for Ryan, the small-town temp who thinks he’s an Apple-worthy tech marketer, at the launch of an Internet gadget called the Pyramid. Jim did the presentation in the dark wearing a Nehru jacket and guyliner.

“Time, space, gender,” Jim intoned. “There are no rules anymore. All boundaries are breaking down in the wake of the infinite future.”

During New York’s Fashion Week last month, Alexandre Plokhov, the Russian-born menswear designer, sent out male models walking awkwardly in long skirts and hair extensions; they were greeted with gasps from the audience. Paul Marlow, the designer for Loden Dager, put eyeliner on his male models.

“They hated it at first and were joking with each other how pretty everyone was,” Marlow recalled. “Then they went out for a smoke, came back and were totally into it.”

Franceso Cavallini, the vice president of the Florence-based upscale legwear company Emilio Cavallini, told Women’s Wear Daily last week that there is “a cult following for mantyhose,” also known as “brosiery” and “guylons.”

The company introduced a unisex tights collection in 2009, a knitted blend of cotton and nylon that has more “breathability” for men, who perspire more. Purchases by men now make up 2 to 3 percent of the company’s annual production of 1 million tights.

Cavallini told Women’s Wear Daily that men in Europe wear tights with shorts and “for warmth under pants during cold weather months and also at home to lounge around in.” Prints for the tights include skulls, stars, stripes and a checkerboard pattern.

“The unisex tights are mainly black and white,” said Lisa Cavallini, a company executive and Francesco’s sister, “but I believe the men buying these tights want to make a fashion statement.” Their mantyhose are most popular with customers from Germany, France, Scandinavia, Canada and the United States.

Can tights be manly? As the “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” song goes, “We’re men, we’re men in tights; we roam around the forest looking for fights.”

A website dedicated entirely to men’s hosiery, e-MANcipate.net, offers an illustrated guide on how to put on pantyhose, starting with Step 1: “Take a seat. Be sure that the nails on your hands are at least in fine condition.”

I asked pretty 41-year-old Sara Blakely, who started Spanx with her $5,000 savings and just made the Forbes billionaires list as the youngest female self-made billionaire in the world, whether mantyhose were on her agenda.

“I never say never,” she said. “Men are starting to become more and more vocal about what they need. We’ve been getting calls from stylists who tell us that A-list actors and top musicians are squeezing into our Spanx bodysuits for women for movies and music videos. And women are telling us to please do something for their husbands and boyfriends, who are squeezing into large and extra-large women’s sizes.”

She already sells men’s undershirts, made of cotton and spandex, and underpants for men featuring “a better designed pouch.”

Perhaps men are emboldened now that the Y chromosome, which has been shedding genes willy-nilly and shrinking for millions of years, has steadied itself. The Y has reached, as The Times science writer Nicholas Wade put it, “a plateau of miniaturized perfection.”

Miniaturized perfection in skull tights. What could be better?

PostHeaderIcon Former Miss Russia

Former Miss Russia ordered back to rehab.

“They tried to make me go to rehab, I said No, no, no”. The bad girl of the beauty industry, Anna Malova, crowned Miss Russia in 1998, will nonetheless have no choice but to return and continue her drug addiction rehabilitation program.

The 39-year-old blond beauty has just been released from the New York jail where she was put in December after being kicked off a rehabilitation program for allegedly hitting a female fellow patient at a Bronx drug rehab facility.

According to the judge, she was getting one “last chance” to complete her 18-month long rehab course and avoid prison, as well as deportation to Russia.

Malova was halfway through her court-ordered rehabilitation program when she was jailed last month. The deal was that once she completed it, the US court would drop charges of theft, forgery and the illegal purchase of prescription drugs in America.

She was once one of Russia’s most promising models, but after moving to America soon after winning the Miss Russia contest in 1998, the glamour drained out of her life. The former model, who also qualified as a doctor in Russia, didn’t have a license to practice medicine in America.

In 2010, Malova was detained and charged with 44 offenses, including theft, forgery and illegal purchase and possession of limited-circulation drugs. The Russian beauty, struggling with drug addiction, denied all the accusations, but ended up in jail after being caught again in 2011.

PostHeaderIcon Toronto Fashion Week

Darker tone for day two at Toronto Fashion Week.

Maybe it was the contrast of Canadian-climate coats and Toronto’s early spring weather, or it could have been the bevy of black pieces that ran through collections, but the second day of World MasterCard Fashion Week felt a little somber.

Sister duo Chloe and Parris Gordon showed a mix of floaty feminine pieces for their Toronto-based Chloe commes Parris label, which juxtaposed with heavier studded leather tops and jackets.

Furthering their growing reputation for fine prints were tissue-thin blouses and maxi dresses and skirts in earthy swirls of sand, dark blues, grey and brown. Slim leather pants in a steely ink blue with a double line of studs down the centre of each leg evoked the dark punk feeling that accented the collection.

Martin Lim, whose designers Danielle Martin and Pao Lim earned a runway show as part of their Mercedes-Benz Start Up competition prize, was heavy on the colour-blocking, with four-sided shapes of mauve, salmon, light teal and fuchsia breaking up monochromatic separates. Several dresses and skirts ended with loose hems of vertical panels that bounced as models walked.

Montreal-based Soia & Kyo showed a unisex collection of wearable wool, leather and puffy coats that were easy on the embellishments, save for some jaunty leather elbow patches, handy pockets and a few belts.

The no-fuss coats came in autumnal colours that would fit easily into wardrobes, with such hues as khaki, dark brown, sand, black and charcoal, and a couple of red and mustard options for those who want to stand out.

Wearable and chic, Canadian prestige brand Lundstrom Collection gave a showing of the simple and sophisticated women’s separates they’re known for, much of which was in grey and black, which lend a stand-out factor to its nubbly mauve and ice blue jackets and skirts. The 37-look parade ended with three gowns in black and deep blue with wonderful bulbous skirts that had us wondering why the label doesn’t show more eveningwear.

Lucian Matis, who showed his opulent black label collection on Monday night, gave women affordable options in his MATIS line, which still incorporated the dark palette of his higher-end label — with even a few feather accents. Black separates covered all bases: trousers, skirts, blouses and dresses, with some deep purple and teal pieces and several jersey dresses, with a rainbow of colours printed on a black canvas.

Highlights:

Tunes: Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” added poppy punch to Soia & Kyo’s outwear show, while Pulp’s “Common People” at Martin Lim had the over-30s in the crowd tapping toes and getting in the mood for the British MOD-influenced show.

The vibe: Choral music and candles gave the Chloe commes Parris show a moody, goth atmosphere (even if the clothes weren’t as macabre).

Trend: Pencil skirts that hit just at the knee continued to make their way down the catwalk, but now with cute additions like double-slits over legs or pin-tucks at the rear.

The look: Natural rosy cheeks and lips, drop earrings, headband tiaras and sparkling brooches made Lundstrom Collection models look like Leo Tolstoy’s Russian princesses.

PostHeaderIcon Former Miss America

‘I was living off coffee, Diet Coke and gum’: Former Miss America speaks out about teenage battle with anorexia.Entering a beauty pageant as a recovering anorexic may sound like the ultimate road to destruction. But for Kirsten Haglund, who was crowned Miss America in 2008, competing against the country’s most genetically-blessed helped kick the disease for good.

The 23 year-old spoke to CNN about her long-time battle with anorexia nervosa, which reared its ugly head into her life when she was just 12.

Now completely recovered, she credited the pageant for giving her something else to focus on. But she also admitted healing wasn’t easy.

Over three years, the 5ft 8in Michigan-born beauty queen, who is one of the youngest recipients of the Miss America title after winning at age 19, lost 30lbs through life-threatening eating habits.

It was about half of her original weight.

She had been studying ballet at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet School at the time and hoped to fit in with her fellow dancers.

She said, ‘I looked at what they were doing and so many of them were throwing away their lunches and not eating. I thought, “If I can at least be thin, I know I can be successful at ballet”.’

The striking blonde survived on a diet of less than 900 calories per day, which is less than half the recommended intake for an average woman. It consisted of coffee, Diet Coke and chewing gum.

‘Every once in a while, I’d have vegetables, fruit or a spoonful of peanut butter,’ she continued. ‘Internally, I knew there was something seriously wrong with me, but I didn’t know how to stop.’

The disease also affected her social life. Miss Haglund admitted to searching the internet for tricks to help her avoid eating in public. She said she regularly clicked through images of celebrities for ‘thinspiration’.

In the image-conscious world of dancing, young ballerinas are faced with extreme pressure. The now-political science major, who studies at the Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, recalled her overwhelming desire to be skinny.

‘It was something that most girls did,’ Miss Haglund said. ‘And if you ate like a normal person, you were looked down upon.’

Light at the end of the tunnel came when her mother forced her into the doctor’s office. It took two years of routine nutritionist meetings, psychology and further meetings with an eating disorder specialist to steer the teenager back to health.Even when she entered her first beauty pageant, the Miss Oakland County pageant in Michigan, her doctors kept a careful eye on the 17 year-old.

Miss Haglund rose above the illness. During the Miss America competition, she even used her struggle as a springboard to discuss how committed she was to help others who may be struggling.

‘From hearing other people’s recovery stories, I learned how to share my own personal struggles,’ she said. ‘Those who struggle with substance abuse can get off their drug and never face it again.’

Gwyneth Paltrow denies bust-up with Kate Moss after reports of a spat between them at Sir Phillip Green’s 60th birthday.

They were believed to have traded insults while on the beach to celebrate a mutual friend’s milestone birthday.

But Gwyneth Paltrow today denied that she got into a spat with Kate Moss during Sir Phillip Green’s 60th celebrations.

Reports today said the pair got into a row after Gwyneth ran past a crisp-munching Moss while out for a jog on the beach in Mexico.

According to the Sun newspaper, the pair were in Mexico to celebrate the billionaire businessman’s 60th when they came head-to-head on the beach.

It claimed that the Oscar-winner put Miss Moss in her place after the model asked her why she was out jogging and Gwyneth, 39, snapped back: ‘So I don’t look like you when I get old.’

The report said Kate, 38, then threw some crisps at Gwyneth and shouted: ‘Why don’t you eat some f****** carbs?!’

A source told the paper: ‘The spat was the talk of the dinner. Everyone was having a giggle about it.’

But today, Gwyneth’s spokesperson told the Mail Online: ‘
There was no such fight. This is a fabrication.’

The pair have known each other for years but don’t move in the same circles any more although both are good friends with Sir Phillip.

Kate famously joined forces with him to design a few ranges for TopShop while Gwyneth has been seen out for dinner with him several times to discuss business.

The girls were part of the A-list line-up that were in Mexico for the party including Naomi Campbell and Leonardo DiCaprio.

PostHeaderIcon Lauren Stoner

Lauren Stoner makes heads spin AGAIN as she parades her perfect figure in a Barbie-inspired bikini.

She hasn’t appeared on the TV screens since her reality show was cancelled in October 2010.But Lauren Stoner is still making sure she’s in the spotlight by continuing to parade her perfect figure on the beach in a bikini. The former Spin Crowd ‘office hottie’ was at it again in Miami today slipping into a Barbie-inspired pink and aqua bikini to frolic on the sand.

There was not an inch to pinch on the 27-year-old, who looked tanned and toned in her tiny two-piece.

The blonde arrived at Soho Beach House wearing a pair of mini Daisy Dukes, but she later peeled them off to reveal her miniscule bikini bottoms as she readied herself for a sun bake.

The slim former reality star was relaxing with friends and appeared to be in high spirit as she had fun under the sun.

Her beach outing is the second this week, with the fun-loving blonde spotted in a red revealing bikini just two days ago.

Earlier this week, Lauren was seen relaxing with a male friend, who seemed like he was enjoying the view as the two spent a lazy day in the sun outside of the Continuum luxury condominiums in South Beach.

The long legged blonde was joined by a female friend later in the day and as the two women decided the weather just right to go topless.

Lauren featured in the short-lived E! reality show as one of six PRs whose hectic working lives were captured on cameras.

The programme was cancelled after only two months in October 2010, but it appears Lauren is still keen to milk the publicity she won during her short tenure.

Lauren was dubbed the ‘office hottie’ for the Command PR firm in The Spin Crowd, working alongside Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck, doing public relations for celebrity events and endorsements in New York and LA.

But it looks like the Southern belle, who is originally from Virginia, could well be setting her sights on a move from the small screen to the big screen or at least an A-list movie director.

The blonde has been linked to Transformers director Michael Bay after the pair were spotted on the beach together late last year.

She’s in Vogue! Kate Moss has specs appeal in new eyewear campaign.

She has enough magazine covers under her belt, not to mention money in the bank, for an early retirement.

But it seems Kate Moss is busier than ever.

The 38-year-old supermodel starred in a photoshoot for this month’s edition of U.S Vogue, will appear in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous and also jetted off to Mexico last week to celebrate Sir Phillip Green’s 60th birthday.

But rather than take a break, the mother-of-one is back in the spotlight again, for her second eyewear campaign for Vogue.

Shot by Mario Testino in London, Kate wears several of the brand’s glasses – despite not wearing specs herself – and looks fresh-faced and chic for the summer.

A spokesperson said:’Kate is famous for being a real style chameleon. In this campaign she illustrates how easy it is to add versatility to our casual and semi-formal looks.’

Kate said: ‘It was great being asked to be the face of Vogue Eyewear for a second year. It’s such a cool brand with glasses for every occasion, and working with Mario is always fun – we have such a good time!’.

Meanwhile, Kate teamed up with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley for the special one-off episode of Absolutely Fabulous, being screened as part of Sport Relief this week.

Kate is said to poke fun at herself in the new show which features several other celebrity cameos.

While new and young models come and go Daria’s unique beauty never fades. After more than 10 years at the top of the fashion modeling world, top designers and brands still see her as one of the most desirable faces for their campaigns. From being an anonymous young girl with no desire to enter the fashion world to becoming one of the world’s most familiar faces, Daria eventually got on top of the fashion world.

Daria was born in Poland and moved with her parents to Canada when she was three years old. As a young girl she attended a visual arts school, but at the age of 14 her plans changed when she met her friend’s mother who was head of a modeling agency in Toronto. Though she won in a local beauty contest, Daria’s modeling career didn’t launch immediately.

For a few years she participated only in minor fashion productions and considered to go back to her original plan to study visual arts. But her modeling career slowly began to take off only after an agent decided to take her seriously. Soon after top fashion designers fell in love with the fresh natural beauty and Daria soon found herself well on her way to becoming the next top model.Daria’s first season as an international model was enough for Prada to make her their new face. Daria also featured for Italian Vogue, W Magazine among other notable fashion publications. The late iconic fashion photographer, Helmut Newton, took one of her memorable photo shoots in 2004. During the same year, photographer Steven Meisel booked Daria for Vogue Italy and for a Prada advertising campaign.

PostHeaderIcon Heidi Klum

It is a very common thought that motherhood and a successful career can’t go hand in hand. The responsibilities of both don’t always allow women to continue with their demanding career, so sometimes they seek other career alternatives.

But it’s not absolutely necessary for everyone to choose this path. Many women decide to take a short break and then get back on the runway. Many models become mothers and don’t change their career in favor of changing diapers.

FashionTV compiled a list of some of the world’s most popular models who decided that high-heels, modeling and strollers can go perfect together.

Heidi Klum

The fact that Heidi Klum gave birth four times doesn’t prevent her from being one of the most popular Victoria’s Secret Angels of all time. In 2010, after 13 years, Klum ended her collaboration with Victoria’s Secret. Since then she became more of a business women – a career that hasn’t been any less demanding than modeling. In 2011 Klum earned more than 20 million dollars. This achievement placed her on Forbes’ Annual World’s Top Earning Models list.

PostHeaderIcon men

And so, in an effort to provide full disclosure to my loyal readers and fans, here’s a taste of what’s really been going on over the past year … Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

While writing my first column for 2011, I was fresh into an almost three-month relationship (if you can call it that?), wondering what was going to come next. Should I bring up commitment? Should he? Should I just go with the flow? I had no bloody idea.

Hence I wrote about whether or not men should commit after three months of casual dating. Some said yes; that three months was ample time to know whether or not you want to be with that person for the long term. Others said their minimum commitment period was after only six months. One said that once he kissed a girl he knew she was his girlfriend right away and there was no question about it, and a fourth said that until she brought it up, it didn’t even cross his mind.

For the record, the bloke I was seeing soon moved overseas, indefinitely …

Suddenly things were back to square one: dateless. Encouraged by an article in The Wall Street Journal, which stated that there were no eligible single men left in the world, I took it upon myself to search high and low to investigate.

What were women complaining about? Good men were everywhere! Sure, I wasn’t dating any of them, and most of them were already in relationships, but still, they did indeed exist!

So, what the heck was the problem? Were women being too picky? Were their standards too high? Or were the women the actual problem, forcing the men to flee for the hills due to being too desperate, too clingy, too ballsy, too smart?

Not exactly sure yet, I quickly realised the problem when I met someone new: a commitment-phobe 101. Unfortunately, I didn’t know this until it was too late.

In an attempt to hint to said bloke that, if he wanted something serious, he’d better man up,  I wrote a column titled, ”What does it mean to man-up?”.

The media pounced, calling upon me to tell the men of Australia how they too could man-up in order to get (or keep) the women of their dreams.

But all the hinting in the world just didn’t work. By mid-April, it was no surprise that I was writing about “how you know when it’s over”, specifically when men conveniently forget to tell you that they’ve moved on, or that they’re back together with their ex, or – worse – they had never actually broken up with their girlfriend in the first place and you – dear fling – were just that, a fling and nothing more. Boom.

That’s when I decided that the single women of the world need a little injection of self-empowerment. My column titled, “What does it take to be a strong woman?” was influenced by Oprah Down Under, Rhianna (coming out on top of the Chris Brown saga), Tyra Banks fighting for female empowerment, Somali supermodel Waris Dirie fighting against female mutilation and Maria Kennedy Shriver encouraging women to become stronger, wiser and unafraid of taking over in a man’s world.

It was all go-girl power at Ask Sam HQ. For a while.

And then came Pippa Middleton.

Who can forget the stir she caused around the world when her behind became an international icon at her sister Kate’s fairytale wedding to Prince William?

Hence I decided to pose the question to the men: What was so great about Pippa? Was she really the ultimate Bachelorette? “What constitutes a hot woman?” became the hot topic of the month with almost 100 responses about what makes a woman wife material. (Note: Blonde hair and breast implants were not mandatory.)

Then something strange happened: serial dater (or rather, serial bonker) Russell Brand committed to pop star Katy Perry, which prompted this question from moi: “Can a strong woman quash a man’s womanising woes?”

So far so good for the likes of Perry and Elizabeth Hurley. As for Demi Moore and Maria Shriver? Not so much.

But back to my life.

By the end of May, I was faced with another type of bloke on the block: men who are stuck in “Guyland”. (A guy who took me on a date made it quite clear he was never going to get married any time soon, if ever.)

My article on the topic, which made it all the way across the world to The New York Times, struck a nerve with the blokes of Australia. Many concurred: yes, they too were stuck in an extended adolescence with commitment being the last thing on their minds.

PostHeaderIcon modern women

“Why commit when you can get sex for free?” they lamented. True. And yet the modern women attempting to date them were flummoxed.

After all, if all the men are shunning commitment, what the heck is a marriage-minded modern women to do?

Hence I wrote about how tough it is to be a modern women and encouraged single sisters to stick together throughout the trials and tribulations of it all.

And after my own trials and tribulations with a man cemented in Guyland, I hopped on a plane and travelled to LA, Vegas and London (for research purposes, of course).

After interviewing single men and modern women across the world of different ages, cultures, religions and continents, I was none the wiser about the singles epidemic, but all the more sure that real love actually happened at the most random of times and places.

Upon returning to Australia, I spoke about the supply and demand aspect of being single – more modern women than men means women aren’t exactly being treated well. So I thought it only fitting to write an article about how to know when (and when not) to sleep with a guy (and how to act after the deed is done).

And then I met someone new. And then Kim Kardashian got married. And then I discovered the power of Erotic Capital. And then I realised the reason so many women get dumped (this “relationship” lasted three weeks): “It’s not him… it’s YOU“.

(Was it me? Was it him? I’m still not sure.)

Of course the lack of man-bashing while I was ensconced in lustful bliss made many readers ask what the heck was happening in my personal life to create such a change in tone. Don’t worry, it didn’t last long. Pretty soon I was back to my old ways. And just to make sure I wasn’t alone after my experience, I interviewed a bona fide Player and put his candid confessions here.

By September, the world’s media was aghast with statistics that were released stating that the price of sex had fallen to an all time low – and I’m not talking about sex with prostitutes either.

Instead the price of sex with regular modern women – in terms of investment on a man’s part – had dropped dramatically. Modern women were no longer even demanding they be taken for dinner before hopping into the sack.

PostHeaderIcon Women

By October (and one week before my birthday), I’d given up on the idea of marriage altogether, stating that marriage might actually RUIN a relationship! Or, at least that’s what Charlie Sheen had just come out and said. And at that point, I was listening to just about anyone. Then after I realised that not one, but two, of the men I’d dated in the past had traded me in for women a little less smart, I believed that the reason men were shunning so many women was quite simply that they were too smart for the blokes. And so, in an article titled “Men don’t like smarter women … say what?!” I caused a stir when I claimed just that – men are intimidated by smart women. (I’d love to be proven wrong about this theory, so feel free to do so at your peril.) Nearing to the end of October I decided that it might just be pointless to be friends with all my exes, but I wasn’t quite sure, so I put it to the masses. The consensus? Don’t be friends with an ex. (Just this past week I’ve had coffee/lunch/dinner with three with no harm done. At least I don’t think so.) By the end of the year, happily dating someone, casual mates with all my exes, stronger than ever before and embracing singlehood like a trooper, looking back, suffice it to say that 2011 was a year filled with more ups and downs than I’ve ever experienced. What’s emerged through this column – or so I hope – are stronger women, more empowered singletons and less commitment-phobic men, all with a better understanding of the opposite sex. With the new year just around the corner, I hope everyone vows to be kinder to each other, to play fewer games, to be more honest, upfront and open to love, to give relationships the real chance they deserve, to refuse to be superficial when it comes to the belief that the grass might be greener and to appreciate those around you who really love and value you. And as for the singles out there? Believe in the universe, trust the process, know that everyone goes through exactly what you’re going through and that love will come when you are ready … and you might just find it when you least expect it …
